Will the stars make it to the Breeders' Cup?

In a horse racing world where injuries are common place, 2008 so far seems
to be the picture of health. Many top horses have continued to train and race
on without losing many of them to injury. Alright, I know you're gonna say horses
of yesteryear ran 15 times a year and today's horses are bred to be fast but fragile, but let's consider some things.

Years ago there was NO Breeders Cup and No Dubai and Not as much money in purses. In reality most top horses are
relegated to an 8 to 9 month racing season at most. Take into consideration the amount of travel/shipping
required by today's top horses and consider that for most owners and trainers the end goal of the Breeders' Cup
is at the end of the season NOT the Middle. I actually consider a 6 to 7 race schedule for our top horses to be a
pretty stiff campaign for the year. See the below 2008 starts for some top horses and you can see that many
are right there.

Curlin 5
Big Brown 6
Ginger Punch 6
Commentator 4
Proud Spell 7
Colonel John 5
Go Between 5
Hystericalady 6
Kip Deville 3

In an effort not to forget our fallen heroes we have lost some great animals in 2008
The two biggest injury or losses this year were of course Eight Belles in the Kentucky Derby by Yum Brands
and the ever popular Lava Man. Forgive me if I forgot any others.

For me, Big Brown is the greatest surprise as his breeding highly suggests a short racing career could have been looming for him.
Rick Dutrow has chosen races well in pacing Big Brown's starts and controlling his always present hoof issues.

How great will the Breeders' Cup be if everyone makes it to the big day(s) without any season or career ending injuries?
The Classic could be one of the best ever if Curlin, Big Brown, Commentator, Go Between, Colonel John and Mambo in Seattle make it into the starting gate.
The Ladies Classic looks to be a phenomenal field with Ginger Punch, Hysterical Lady, Proud Spell and Music Note.
Will Indian Blessing take on the boys in the Sprint?????

My fingers are crossed and I'm knocking on wood. Goin' back to Cali.

I'm expecting BEST Classic ever

Top to bottom The Classic could have an awesome field, as it should be!! Add in possibly a couple of Europeans and this will be the race of the year!!

Down Goes Brown

Grabbed a quarter and off to the breeding shed. Iavarone trying to act humble to Curlin's crew now. I hope they don't even mention Big Brown on Breeders Cup Day. It's about the horses that are running and not the ones that didn't make it.
